Destiny
- Rick's second solo release in 2000 My life has been a more blissful place thanks to the music. From the beginning of my illustrious career I have had the fortunate pleasure of doing what I had always dreamed of as my work. A very strong support system was provided by my family no matter how big or small the project happened to be. Without this support system I feel that I would not have come this far. My family has recently gotten larger with the addition of two great kids and a wonderful wife (Maya, Ben & Julie) (and our dog Elvis too). I never dreamed my life would turn out as beautiful as this and I know in my hear that it would not have without my family. Night after night I leave my house with several guitars in hand and go out to chase that dream. Before I go I kiss my family and say goodnight and they give me hugs and kind words that fill my heart with the fuel it requires to go out and face such an endeavor. It is to them that this album is dedicated. I was on the telephone speaking with my friend Jim and I mentioned that I had a backlog of material that needed to be recorded. I made this verbalization knowing damn well that he had been prompting me to do this for several years. His response was "let's start next week" and so it began. "You see it's destiny". On our first session I felt the pull of something that would be one of the most powerful chapters in the story of my life. This album is many ways wrote, performed and recorded itself. At several points during this production we were all floored by parts or sounds that just seemed to come together! Some of these songs were written several years ago and many of them came as the project unfolded. Their stories will come later. I guess what I'm trying to say is: I knew that this was a natural progression, like water flowing, wind blowing or the sun rising and it had its own groove. I was lucky enough just to spend a little time the the eye of the hurricane and enjoy the wonderful calm while the world outside roared on by. I guess if we had not had that conversation on the phone that fateful day this album may never have come to fruition. I have been working on albums with Jim for over ten years and each one has it's own story. This is the first in which we have played and sang together and the experience was genuinely thrilling. Jim's abilities are much more amazing than he would like to admit. He has the golden ears, the magic fingers and some very sweet pipes. Without him this would not be, so I must give my utmost and deepest thanks and respect to Jim for helping me catch this shooting star. Our sessions were positive and fun. Jim and I have the pleasure of working with a great engineer and assistant named Ryan Dubois who never took his eyes off the spirit of this thing the whole time it was being unraveled. Ryan's attention to our ramblings and his uncanny memorizations of what we had and hadn't done are what kept this kite in the air. "May the bird of paradise fly up your nose.". Ryan's contributions are many and his talents were inspired. Both Jim and I thank him. Last of all thanks to the powers that be for choosing me to be their messenger. I am at your service now and forever.
